"James Barnes One of East Texas' Famous Pioneers," written by Dean Tevis, and first published Sunday, October 2, 1932 in the Beaumont (Texas) Enterprise. Sunday newspaper feature story describes life of pioneer James Barnes including early history of Neshoba County, Mississippi, and Tyler County, Texas.

"Here's Peach Tree Village Story as Written by John Henry Kirby," first published Sunday, October 2, 1932 in the Beaumont (Texas) Enterprise. Side bar story to feature mentioned above. Quotes Kirby's description of Alabama Indian village turned pioneer settlement.

"Wild Deer Given Credit in Santa Anna Capture," first published Sunday, October 2, 1932 in the Beaumont (Texas) Enterprise. Side bar story to feature mentioned above. Describes capture of Gen. Santa Anna by Anderson Barclay and "Deaf" Smith following battle at San Jacinto.

"Data Regarding Menard County; Now Tyler Co.," from the reproduction, this was once a newspaper article. It is not dated and the author is not known. It contains text from the original petition to the Congress of the Republic of Texas seeking a new county from the original Liberty County.

"Mount Hope Lodge No. 121," written by J. E. Wheat. This article is transcribed from typewritten pages, though not believed to be the original. It is undated, but from the text can be dated to the mid-1950s. It contains many names of early pioneers and the recorded history of Freemasonry in Tyler County, Texas beginning in 1852, as well as general early east Texas history.

"Recollections of the Civil War," by the Rev. Alfred Cuthbert SIMS, first published in the Jasper (Texas) News-Boy in 1911. It is a compelling first-hand account of early east Texas life, and of the author's travels and travails through the mountains of east Tennessee, West Virginia and Pennsylvania, including descriptions of the events at Gettysburg and Chickamauga during the War Between the States.

Both are granddaughters of Mary Ann Elizabeth Barnes Simmons, granddaughter of James "Panther" Barnes.
