120. Walter BARCLAY

BIOGRAPHY: Walter's travels took him from Rowan County, North Carolina, to Madison County, Kentucky (site of Boonesborough, established by Daniel BOONE), where deed records show he and his brother Robert sold Madison County land left them by their father. Here he married Elizabeth MCQUEEN (some accounts say that this was his second marriage and that he was 30 and she was 14 or 15). Shortly thereafter, the extended family moved to White County (now Franklin County), Tennessee. Then in 1818 the family moved to Limestone County, Alabama, where they are shown to be charter members of the Round Island Baptist Church. In about 1826, Walter, along with sons William and Anderson traveled to the "bear thicket" of what would become the Republic of Texas. Anderson remained in Texas when Walter and James returned to Alabama for their families. They returned to what is now Tyler County, Texas.
